Are there any plans for large-scale raids?
Hey guys. I started playing City of Heroes in april of Last year. I got my first character to lvl 45 around christmas, and started taking part in the Hamidon raids. (For those of you who don't know, hamidon was a big glob of jelly that took lots of people and lots of strategy to defeat).
I dont think i've ever had as much fun in any game as i've had wiuth the Hamidon Raids. Playing alongisde with 300+ people to accomplish one goal was amazing.
I'm curoius if Guild Wars has an future plans for large scale raids or events similar to this? If so, that would be...well..fun.

I think there were some threads in the Sanitarium talking about this sort of thing. 4v4 arena play and 8v8 guild matches can get a little stale after a while. And this is Guild WARS... so let's see some big battles. Personally I'm hoping this is something ANet is looking at for the expansion due out next year.

ANet said they wanted this game playable to all people regardless of internet speed. I've figure that anything above 100+ players at the same time would probably be a wee bit too much for a 56K user. (Imagine lion's arch dist 1)

Also, balancing a team of hundreds of people would be a nightmare. Not to mention it wouldn't work with Guild Wars' battle system at all.
Good luck attacking I Pwn U Noobs (213) using the tab key. And I hope your computer doesn't explode when you press CTRL.

Yeah, Guild Wars is balanced to smaller-scale PvP, not massive battles and raids a la World of Warcraft. Something a little bigger could be interesting though, maybe Guild vs. Guild combat with two or three 8-man parties on each side, it would require a little more coordination, and opens up possibilities for more complex tactics.

Come on, it's hard enough to navigate Ascalon City on district 1 with my 56k, and that's without them attacking/casting spells! Imagine a battlefield with those guys all fighting... Don't know for you, but I fear for my Internet

not in town, but an instanced area that is optional.
IF balanced out properly for the playing design and server setup of GW, it could be done and be done in a way that is enjoyable for almost all.

That sounds like a totally different game :P
The whole design philosophy of GW is based on player skills. Already we are seeing an errosion of that from the count-1-2-3 air spike teams and spirit-spam teams. The last thing we want IMO is to add more mindless PvP where it is pure luck that someone survives. Sure, it might be fun for some people...but then they should be playing Battlegrounds in WoW and not GW.

Free-for-all raiding of HoH treasure chest is fun. This is one of the better raiding systems of all online games, it is more orgainized than most others.
Edit: btw, you'll also get recognized (fame) for successful raids.
